Walland (population of the total area being around 4000) is located in a valley called Miller’s Cove in Blount County, Tennessee. It surrounded by the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains on both sides. The valley is split by the Little River. The Foothills Parkway, is located atop Chilhowee Mountain, which is on the northern border of Miller’s Cove.
Like Townsend, the area was occupied for thousands of years by Native Americans of various cultures. The last were the Cherokee, who left in the early 1800s to avoid settlers that were moving in. The earliest European explorers to the area were from Spain, but they found no gold and did not stay.
Walland is the home of Blackberry Farm, a mountain resort of 4200 acres that is highly rated as one of the best resorts in America.
Walland is served by US 321, and is about 10 miles (15 minutes) from Maryville, TN. It is about 25 minutes from the Knoxville airport.
