Strawberry Plains (know as "Straw Plains" to locals) is a small unincorporated community located on the boundary of Knox, Sevier, and Jefferson counties.
It is thought to have gotten its name from the numerous wild strawberries that once grew in the area.
Strawberry Plains holds historical significance from the Civil War period. During that time, the Union forces tried to destroy the bridge to thwart the Confederates, but failed. Not long after, the bridge was destroyed in an artillery duel between the Confederate and Union armies.
In more recent history, Strawberry Plains was home to both a limestone quarry and zinc mine.
Today, Strawberry Plains is home to various restaurants, hotels, and gas stations. There is also an office facility for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) in Strawberry Plains.
