Introduction to Seymour, Tennessee
Seymour, is located between Knoxville and Sevierville in Sevier County, Tennessee. The community is located within 40 minutes drive of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a 20 minute drive to downtown Knoxville. Seymour is an unincomporated community approaching 10,000 in population. Historically, the community was known as Newell's Station but is now rarely known by this name within the community. The first court (meeting of the county legislative body) of Sevier County, State of Franklin, was held at Newell's Station on Boyds Creek in March 1785. Upon completion on December 18, 1909, of the Knoxville, Sevierville & Eastern Railway, the community's station was named Seymour in honor of the line's chief engineer.
Seymour is home to secluded mountain and farm properties, as well as more conventional housing developments. In Seymour, there are still uncrowded surburban locations where you can have vistas of the countryside or great views of the mountains. A wide range of housing developments from modest to upper scale are available in Seymour. Seymour is clearly an alternative to Knoxville, if you prefer to be closer to the mountains with a suburban ambiance.

Seymour provides advantages of no local taxes for a municipality since it is unincorporated. It depends on Sevier County and appropriate utility districts for local services. Seymour has excellent local shopping for everyday needs. It is within a short driving distance of bountiful shopping and entertainment venues at Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Knoxville, and Gatlinburg. Knoxville airport (McGhee Tyson) is about a 30 minute drive.
Readily available to Seymour residents are the shopping and entertainment attractions of Knoxville and Sevier County, the local golf courses, and the amenities of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In addition, top level professional and college sports are within easy driving distance. Lake activities are also available, as there are many lakes in East Tennessee. Fort Loudon Lake and Douglas Lake are just a short drive from Seymour.
Schools are provided by Sevier County. Local public schools serving Seymour are Seymour Primary (K-2), Seymour Intermediate (3-5), Seymour Middle (6-8), and Seymour High (9-12). Private school options are available. Seymour is served by Walter State Community College, a branch of which is located in nearby Sevierville. College education opportunities are readily available in the area, starting with the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, which is about a 20 minute drive from Seymour.
Seymour has access to excellent medical facilities. The Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center is a modern, expanding facility for support of Sevier County and the surrounding area. Additional medical facilities are available in the Knoxville area.
