Introduction to Sevierville, TN

Sevierville, Tennessee, chartered in 1795 and named for Tennessee’s first governor, John Sevier, is one of the oldest cities in Tennessee.  As the county seat for Sevier County, it is the center of business and government for the extensive recreational, tourist, and residential development enterprises of the Great Smoky Mountains region in Tennessee.

Situated in a valley in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevierville is close to the attractions of Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Sevierville combines an historic hometown atmosphere with state-of-the-art residential communities in and around Sevierville.  Residents live in an area of astounding natural beauty and have access to a large variety of entertainment, shopping, and recreational venues. Sevierville has preserved its southern charm and the ambiance of a small, historic town. The atmosphere in Sevierville is friendly, relaxed, and fun.  The entire downtown area encompasses Sevierville's historic district, where a walking tour unfolds the history of the nation and its expansion westward.

One of its most enduring symbols is the classic white clock tower on the 105-year-old Sevier County Courthouse with a clock that strikes every half hour in the time-honored tradition. The statue of Dolly Parton on the courthouse lawn was sculpted by local artist Jim Gray and unveiled by Miss Parton herself on May 2, 1987, with her parents in attendance. There's also a statue on the courthouse lawn in remembrance of our veterans.

The Sevier County School System provides schools for K-12, and  Walters State Community College has excellent facilities in Sevierville.  A number of colleges are available in Knoxville with less than one hour drive. Sevierville has great shopping, including its own shopping districts and those of nearby Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.  Sevierville is served by a wide range of restaurants located in the city and thoughout Sevier County. Sevierville is served by a modern, expanding hospital, Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center.  Other hospitals and facilities are located nearby in Knoxville.
