Farragut - One of the best affordable places in the South

ssee is an upscale community (population 20,000) bordering Knoxville. In 2007, Farragut was named one of the “25 Best Affordable Places in the South” by Business Week. In addition, the town is part of the reason for the high rankings of Knoxville as a place to live and work. The town of Farragut, which is incorporated, has no debt and no city real estate taxes for homeowners. Services provided by Knox County include public schools that are rated among the best schools in Tennessee, a public library, and police protection. The town itself has beautifully designed parks, great recreation opportunities, a wide range of church denominations and excellent residential developments. All of these attributes make Farragut an excellent place for living and for retirement.

Farragut is named in honor of American Civil War Admiral David Farragut, who was born just east of Farragut at Campbell's Station in 1801. The area was originally known as Campbell’s Station. A fort and stage coach station were built there by David Campbell in 1787. The brick Campbell's Station Inn was built there in 1810 and still stands on Kingston Pike within sight of the Farragut Town Hall. It is still in use as a private residence. The Civil War Battle of Campbell's Station was fought there on November 16, 1863.
Farragut public schools are rated very highly, among the best schools in the nation. In 2008, Farragut High School had more National Merit semifinalists than any school in Tennessee. Part of Farragut is served by the new Hardin Valley Academy, a public school designed with advanced curriculum and facilities. Farragut is served by several private schools, and is located in close proximity to a number of colleges and universities, including Pellissippi State Technical Community College and the University of Tennessee.
Farragut has great shopping, including the $500 Million Turkey Creek shopping district, part of which is located in Farragut and part in Knoxville. Farragut is served by a wide range of restaurants located within the town and nearby. Farragut is served primarily by two nearby modern hospitals, Parkwest Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center West.

Farragut has two parks for youth sports, and Knox County’s Concord Park bordering Farragut has facilities for a number of youth sports. Farragut borders Fort Loudon Lake, where a Yacht Club and a number of boat docks are available to the public. You can own a home or condo on the lake in on near Farragut. Additional lakes are within easy driving distance of Farragut- many boat facilities within less than one hour. TVA has an interactive map to locate the various recreation facilities.
Farragut is also served by several athletic and physical fitness facilities and four golf facilities, two of which are competition level course located in Farragut. Farragut has a network of walking and biking trails that connect many of the residential and business areas.
Farragut is conveniently located. It borders on I-40/I-75, and is near I-140. Average travel time to key places and venues: 15 minutes to downtown Knoxville, 25 minutes to Oak Ridge, 30 minutes to the Knoxville Regional Airport, one hour to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or 90 minutes to the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.
